The Gambia football senior national team (the Scorpion) is
expected to dropt another a point or points in the next FIFA world ranking to
come in three months after failing to engage in any friendly test match in this
month FIFA international calendar.
The Gambia current position on the latest FIFA ranking table
is 129 from the previous 128 out of 209 affiliated football associations to world
football governing body FIFA including the world’s newest nation Southern Sudan
who secured 199 positions in the last ranking after holding a draw with Uganda
in ongoing African Cup of nations’ qualifiers in Juba recently.
The Scorpion of the Gambia whose hope of securing a place in
the 2013 Cup of Nations in South Africa for the first time in history has been
dashed last month in Algeria with an emphatic four goals to nil for the first
time in the record of Gambia football in both test match and in the competition
proper in sixteen years.
Performance of any team can be surely improved by actively
taking part active football ranging from test matches and fully camping and
training together for a long period of time. This is absolutely not the case of
the Gambia as the team hardly got test match in FIFA international calendar
date. This will seriously continued to hamper the progress of our national team
hence Gambia is still trying to have her first time appearance in both the
African Cup of Nations and the World Cup
Now that Gambia confirmed their exit in the qualifiers of the
2013 South African tournament, all hopes now shouldered on the World Cup
qualifiers which will resume in next year. The GFA, the Ministry of Youth and
Sports and all other stakeholders involve in Gambian football to put in place for
the team to qualify for the 2014 world cup in Brazil.
