When Gambia U-20 lost to Morocco by emphatic 4-0 last Friday
in the first league of the CAF U-20 qualifying round campaign, the publisher of this sports blog who also double the sports reporter of Marketplace
Business Newspaper went in to the streets to sound the opinions
of football supporters about the poor performance of the team in Morocco.
Baba Saidykhan of Bakau Kachikally expresses his
disappointment with both players and officials for their underperformance. According to him “Gambia need to have a very
good structure in place for our football to graduate from this disappointing
stage. To be honest, I was not surprise with that the U-20 will lose to their
opponent Morocco in Casablanca, because our team was not good enough to play
with Morocco who were training together for a long time , not only two week
before their game”.
He continue that “for me in person I was disappointed with
the process to the game from the preliminary selection day to the final day of
the selection, because I attended almost all their training and show some
players who were left out and they a good enough to be part of the team. All that
is gone, what they should do now ahead of the returning leg is to put their
house in order. It may be very difficult for Gambia to make their way to the
nest stage, if only they can turn down the four defecate with a five zero win
at home”.
Muhammed Touray of Cape Point for his part shear similar
sentiment with Baba Saidykhan adding that the demonstrated no sign of qualifying
for 2013 U-20 Africa youth championship to be play in Libya.
The problems affecting our football in all levels are late
preparation, lack of test matches, wrong people in the wrong places and
biasness of coaches during selections of national teams special in the junior
level. If these problems I pointed out are considered and corrected in due
time, our football will move from the current limbo. I have no personal
grievance against any player or coach, but what is good for the nation is what
real concern me”.
