History: Gambia national football team



The Gambia national football team, nicknamed The Scorpions, is the national team of Gambia and is controlled by the Gambia Football Association. Until 1965, the team and the country were known as British Gambia. It has never qualified for the World Cup or the Africa Cup of Nations finals.

HISTORY OF GAMBIAN FOOTBALL PART 2


In our last edition we stop at the 2003/2004 football season were Gambia was eliminated in the world cup qualifying and the African Nation 16/11/03 Gambia 0 Liberia 3 for 2 years. The President Alhagie Gabbi Sosseh set up an enquiry headed by Gyra Lamin. The Technical Director Sang Ndong and his entire staff were sacked. GFA decided not to play international matches, and the decision annoyed nearly all the teams in the league, more than sixty teams wrote a letter to The GFA requesting an immediate resignation of the GFA President and called on VOTE OF NO CONFIDENT. He was impeached on the 7/11/04 at the Independence Stadium. A Congress was held and Alhagie Omar Sey was elected President. And now continue from where we stop, there we go:

The Gambia football senior national team (the Scorpion) is expected to dropt another a point or points in the next FIFA world ranking to come in three months after failing to engage in any friendly test match in this month FIFA international calendar.

GFA Normalization Committee reacts to ROC Protest Letter



Following the joint communiqué recently issued and signed by the Chairman and Secretary Generals of the Regional Organisation Committee (ROC) from all the regions in country sent to The Gambia Football Association (GFA) Normalisation Committee protesting their angers to the validation of the draft constitution. The GFA has reacted to the protest letter sent to them by the Regional Organising Committee (ROC) boycotting the validation of the GFA draft Constitution. The committee on Friday afternoon convened a press conference at the GFA house in Kanifing to explain and elaborate more on the protest letter addressed to them from the ROC.

IAAF Council creates new World Relays competition


The IAAF Council has decided to create a new competition called the “IAAF World Relays” with the first editions taking place in Nassau, Bahamas in May 2014 and 2015.

ANOTHER GAMBIAN TEAM WITHDRAWS FROM CAP QUALIFIERS IN A MONTH AND FINED $1000



The Gambia U-20 male football team who were recently lost to Morocco two weeks ago in Cassabalaca has also withdraw from the ongoing competition and were also fined $1000 by CAF, thus means the team will not be competing in the second leg of the qualifiers when they should host Morocco on the 11th August 2012 at the Brikama Box Bar mini stadium.

BREMEN BORDER FC COMMENCE TRAINING


Bremen Border FC one of the most famous Nawettan team in Bakau Kachikally has last Wednesday commenced training ahead of the 2012 Bakau Nawettan competition which is expected to kick start on the first weekend after the Holy month of Ramadan.
The last year’s knock out trophy semi-finalist Bremen Border FC are hopping for first time to wear a silver or a gold medal at the end of this season for the first time in the team’s history in Bakau Nawetten.

ROC REJECT GFA CONSTITUTIONAL VALIDATION AND DEMAND FOR CONGRESS

KANSALA FC LEFT FOR NORWAY ACADEMY FITNESS TOURNAMENT




One of the young registered Academy in the Bakau Nawettan Kansala FC have left for Norway to take part in the 40th edition of Norway academy football tournament for academy teams across the world. The tournament is expected to kick start this week were the Gambia only team in the tournament Kansala FC will play their first game on 30th July 2012.
