Zenith Bank Honoured for winning Governor Jatta’s Trophy

Modou Lamin Badjie, captain of Zenith Bank (GAMBIA) LTD has said that, they were honored as a Bank for winning the 2013 edition of the Governor Jatta’s trophy.

Zenith Bank (Gambia) Ltd beat EcoBank by 5-4 on post match penalty kicks in the finals played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda over the weekend after drawing 1-1 in regulation time.   

Zenith Bank (Gambia) Ltd it could be noted reached the quarterfinals of the competition the previous two years.

Speaking to the captain of the team in an interview, he said winning the trophy was achieved through team work, noting that, either they win the trophy or not there is always motivation at Zenith Bank. He stated that, come next year they will defend the trophy, adding that, Zenith Bank have changed the Inter-Bank tournament because they have a fan club and also looking the crowd they pull in every game.
He remarked that, he knows certain Bank will emulate them to improve the competition, saying: winning the trophy this winning this year will motivate more come next year’s edition.
ML as he is widely called noted that, they always work together at Zenith Bank, adding that, “to whom much is given much is expected” since all the required materials were provided for the team for the competition.

He said even though some of their players had to go to school after work they were able to prepare well for the competition, noting that, the test games organised by their two coaches also helped them a lot during the tournament.

Bajie also thanked the Managing Director (MD) of the Bank who he say is the number 1 fan of the team, noting that, they knew “the trophy will come back home” (the bank) looking at their campaign.

He said they used the same approach for every game throughout the competition, adding that, last year GTBank knocked them out of the competition, so they thought they could also do something this year and were able to beat them in the semifinals.  To be honest last year was tough for us with GTBank, but this time around we understood that when we beat GTBank and two other teams we could win the trophy. He said further that “I feel very grateful as a player and as a captain leading the team to achieving glory. It has been a long while that we were trying to win this glory. We have to give all the credits to our MD/CEO; he has been very supportive of the team throughout the tournament”. 

“He gave us all the support and courage; he covered all the expenses on his own and never wanted us to buy anything even as low as drinking water in our training grounds. I must say that we are very proud of the MD and the entire staff of the bank for their support and courage that has led us to this glory.”

 “Whatever the case, I want to thank all those who supported us, especially our customers, because looking at the crowd of spectators, most of them are our customers; so I will thank them for their part well-done.”
