Y&S Minister Alieu K. Jammeh |
The
minister of Youth and Sports Alieu K. Jammeh has told journalists that
essential pillars are missing in our Gambian football. Minister Jammeh was speaking at a press
conference on Saturday after the GFA constitutional adoptive congress held at
the Independence Stadium Friendship Hostel hall. “We have not been in the essential place;
because the essential pillars of our football are not there,”
Alieu
Jammeh said “one these essential pillars are our domestic leagues, we want to have
proper and very competitive leagues, we want our communities to go and watch
our national leagues. We should have functional football clubs that can
represent the country at the international competitions”, Jammeh said.
“Other
critical pillars are our schools and community sports, which are lacking, in
those days we used to have very competitive schools and community sports, but
now everything has varnish”.
“To have a strong and efficient secretariat and technical support, if these pillars are in place we can say our football is there. People are not playing a respectable football in the country, that’s why we are beaten in the competitions and everybody at home is disappointed.”
The honorable minister of Youth and Sports said the government of The Gambia have truly support the attainment of Gambian sports especially football. That’s why they (the government) want to work with FIFA and CAF in a way forward.
He
further acknowledged the gathering and expresses his satisfactions and
gratitude with the proceedings of the adoptive congress of the GFA’s draft
constitution as they happen.
Minister
Jammeh said that they (the government) will leave FIFA to interpret the out
come of the result. He said from
December to date they are satisfied with the proceedings of the adoptive
congress.
The
adoptive congress was also witness by the FIFA representative Primo Carvarlo
who was observing the whole process as an independent candidate to over see on
behalf of the world football governing body FIFA. For the FIFA delegate, he
said the process was fair and is the way forward for Gambian football.
