Roundup of First Division League

Interior FC coach Ebrima Manneh
Ebrima Manneh’s Interior secured their first win in the ongoing Gambia First Division League with a 2-0 scalp of a resurgent Gambia Armed Forces in a game played at the Box Bar Mini-Stadium in Brikama.

Abou Sanyang scored the first goal four minutes into the second half while Momodou Camara scored to put the result beyond the reach of El Hadji Sey’s Armed Forces in the 54th minute. Camara capitalised on a mistake by defender Ismaila Loppy whose partial clearance was intercepted by giant striker Toubabo who fed his fellow forward.

Real continue good domestic run
Elsewhere in the league, Real de Banjul ensured that there was no Champions League hangover as they made light work of struggling Young Africans in a 2-0 win at the KG5 Mini-Stadium.

The champions went straight into business against a Young Africans side still coming to terms with the resignition of their German coach Mike Toztke, taking the lead after only 13 minutescourtesy of an Abdoulie Sanneh goal. Mulai Kietascored the second goal in the 78th minute.

Gamtel secure bragging rights in Banjul
On Sunday, Gamtel secured a 2-0 win over Hawks in a Banjul derby played at the Serekunda East Mini-Stadium. Following a barren first half, Tapha Manneh’s charges, who secured their passage to the first round of the CAF Confederation’s Cup last week, opened the scoring in the 54th minute through Modou Sarr.

After Lamin Chatty failed to level things for Gamtel in the 56th minute, set-piece specialist Hamang Conteh converted a 68th minute penalty after Hawks’ Lamin Fatajo was penalised for handling Dodou Suso’s cross in the area.

Brikama thump Samger

One of the biggest winners of the weekend was Brikama United who thumped Samger 3-0 at the Box Bar Mini-Stadium on Saturday. Sainey Sambou was the hero of the day, scoring two goals either side of the break.

Duta, as he is fondly called, scored with a thunderbolt just past the half-hour mark. Brikama went into the break with the slender lead. Sambou scored the second goal in the 55th minute after he was released by right-back Foday Saidy before he was substituted to a standing ovation by the Brikama supporters. Bully Drammeh completed the rout on the hour mark through another assist from Foday Saidy.

Elsewhere in the league, leaders Steve Biko thumped Gambia Ports Authority 4-1 on Sunday while Bakau United and newly promoted Seaview played a goalless draw in the latest Bakau derby.
