The famous Bakau-based nawettan team KGI FC on Monday defeated the city side Starlight of Banjul 1-0 to finally earn their promotion to the GFA second division league at a game played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda.

KGI FC joined Bombada FC of Brikama in the GFA second division league after finishing top and second positions respectively in the triangular qualifiers championship, with 9 points each out of four outings.
The usual West Coast Region outfit Gunjur United entertained Roots of Banjul with an emphatic 3-0 win in the other third division triangular qualifiers game played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium on the same day.
The three-nil victory was not enough to secure Gunjur United a promotion to the second tier following their relegation to the third division last season after their dismal performance during the season.

Bombada and KGI FC finished top and second positions in the GFA third division triangular qualifiers with 9 points each in four games. Gunjur United took 3rd position with 7 points in four games two points behind Bombada and KGI FC.
Roots are 4th position with 3 points in four outings, while Starlight are rooted at the bottom of the GFA third division triangular qualifiers with a single point in four outings after securing a draw in the campaign.
