Officials of the Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) on behalf of the minister
of Tourism and Culture Monday received a team of Belgian Skydivers who arrived
in the country ahead of the scheduled skydiving event starting next week.
Ousainou Senghore, director of Finance, who
deputised for the director general of the GTBoard, expressed the Tourism
Ministry and GTBoard’s appreciation to the organizer of the event, Ronald
Limborg, for choosing destination Gambia for the event.
Fatou Beyai-Raji, the director of Project
Development, Investment and Culture at GTBoard, assured the participants of
GTBoard and other stakeholders’ support throughout their stay.
Delges Werner, the pilot of the aircraft OO-SPA
Super Van 900 Grand Caravan, explained that Super Van 900 is an airplane that
will come at every time of 4000 meters high for the people to jump out, which
is a good level. He
disclosed that over 300 professional skydivers would be coming from England,
Belgium, France and Switzerland among other European countries for this game to
make this year’s season and beyond memorable.
Werner disclosed that they flew to The Gambia
from Acadia, Morocco, with the Super Van 900 aircraft. He said the airplane can
carry 19 skydivers pilot inclusive at a time to fall out.
Jimmy Mathys, one of the professional
skydivers, said skydiving is a completely different sports that is a little bit
from north of Belgium where it is a bit colder but with less snow. He assured
of a good event as it is warmer here in The Gambia. “We chose coming to The
Gambia because of the fantastic weather and to allow others to discover the
good destination Gambia,” he intimated.
Maud Vierlnekr, the only woman in the team,
also said skydiving is different from other sports, but added that women have
space in the sport. She also assured that they are well prepared to entertain
everyone.
