LOME, November 24, 2012 - The Executive Board of the Association of Sports Journalists of Togo (AJST) has learned with shock and dismay of the attempted aggression on two of its members this Wednesday, 21 November 2012 in front of the premises of “Radio Victory” in Lomé.

According to several witnesses, an individual identified as the bodyguard of the President of the Togo Football Federation (FTF), allegedly tried to assault two journalists Abel Zindjodji and Manu Adjiwanou on the grounds that they had criticized Mr. Gabriel Améyi during the TV programme “Fou de foot “(Crazy about Football).

The Executive Board of the AJST denounces and condemns this behavior from another age, and demands that the person should be sanctioned. We are in a state of law and no one should take justice into his own hands.

This is why the AJST intends to do everything possible to ensure that this matter is followed-up.

At the same time, we call the Executive board to be more vigilant and to urge sports journalists to be responsible for their spoken and written words and to respect the ethics of the profession.
