BAKAU SET FOR ZONAL RETURN WITH DIFFERENCE

The two-year absentees of the annual super nawettan tournament (Zonal competition) organised by the GFA for all the recognized nawettan zones in the greater Banjul area, Bakau, will return to the championship with a difference this year, according to the president of Bakau Zonal Sports Committee (BZSC), Bakary Dampha (Paco), in an interview with sport reporters on Sunday at the community’s football park.
The BZSC president said Bakau will come to the Zonal competition with a total difference compared to the previous years, even though the zone has not completed its 2012 nawettan championships for both the league and the knockout trophy.

‘’The date for the start of the tournament is just at the corner, but we want to make so that we wrap up with all the finals before our first game. But notwithstanding, we have decided to hand over the team’s responsibility to one of the hardworking coach of the Bakau, Abdoulie Bojang, who was the coach of the team in the past years to be assisted by other coaches in the tournament.
“The team will also start having test games as part of preparation with Brufut Zonal team one of the newcomers in the zonal championship,” the BZSC president Dampha stated.
“Although Abdoulie Bojang is not an extraordinary man in Bakau when it comes to football and coaching, but he is a very respected person and he can come to the rescue of the community with lot of things especially in football.
“He is someone who devotes all of his time with youths in developing football game in the community as well as building the career of many young players in Bakau.
“It is also good to know that we will make a fair selection of the team during the final selection day to have a good side in the tournament, because we want to come to the championship with a total different,” Paco explained.
It would be recalled that Bakau zonal team was banned by organizers of the zonal tournament in the 2009 season when they were accused of causing the zonal fracas between Bakau and Serekunda East in the final play at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium.
Bakau zone was suspended from taking part in the competition for two years, which in the first year the event was not staged and it was diverted to the Golf course where an international tournament was held and won by Gambian golfer, Tigerwood.
