National Coordinator NEDI Landing B. Sanneh |
Mr Sanneh was speaking in an interview with this reporter on Friday at his office at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
“Overall
the NaYCONF was a big achievement and so much unprecedented in the history of
the event,” he said.
“I
can say that I have attended almost all the NaYCONFs organised since 1990 in
Brikama when it used to be called Youth Week then.
“I
will describe this year’s event the most successful in the history of the
Nayconf, owing to the set-up of the National Organising Committee and the
relevant stakeholders involved to push the event forward.
“It
doesn’t only come as a success, but the process itself was very smooth and
orderly, which I have to attribute to the leadership.
“I
think we have a very strong and focused leadership; that was why we were able
to come all this way. If we had not laid down the proper plan we would not have
achieved this great success in the NaYCONF.
“I
will thank the NOC and leadership of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their
cooperation that we were able to make ourselves focused based on what we had
for the event.
“Of
course we cannot also oversight the role of the Local Organising Committee (LOC)
and the people of CRR as a whole for their tremendous effort in getting things
done successfully.”
Asked
of his perception of the activities during the event, Mr Sanneh said: “For me I
think it was the daily publication of the activities happening in the event in
the NaYCONF Daily newspaper published by the media crew of the event, which was
the eye-catching moment.
“Not
only that, the journalists were also sending their reports to their daily
newspapers for the general public to be aware of what was happening in Bansang.
This has never happened in the history of NaYCONF where delegates have the full
information of activities happening, the following day.
“We
have seen in the past where the NaYCONF media team used to publish only two or
three editions during the whole event. I would therefore like to commend the NaYCONF Daily team for the giant effort
put in by them. I must say they also contributed to the success of the event.”
Mr
Sanneh singled out President Jammeh as the brain behind the success of the
2012/13 Nayconf.
According
to him, without the intervention of the president at some crucial moments when
NOC was in need of financial support, the event would not have happened.
He
also hailed the efforts of all those that contributed to the success of the
event, as well as companies and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
