Macoumba Kandji |
Gambia-hopeful Macoumba Kandji has finally found a
home away from the United States as he joined Greek Football League [second
tier] side Kalloni FC, Gambia Sports Online can exclusively reveal.
Prior
to signing the contract in Greece, Kandji made his way through Turkey on trial with French Ligue 2 side
Clermont Foot Auvergne 63 though negotiations were said to break
down with Clermont and both had moved on.
Kandji
revealed via his official Facebook page that he has signed a short-term
contract with the Lesbos based side though it remains to be seen whether he
will return back in time for the 2013 Major League Soccer season beginning in
March, which will be the 101st season of FIFA-sanctioned soccer in the United
States and Canada.
After
his contract expired with the Houston Dynamo in December, Kandji expressed his
desire to look at other options even though Houston attempted to re-sign him
and because the Dynamo made an offer to Kandji, the club will retain his MLS
rights should he decide to move to the league again.
Kalloni
Lekanopedio Football Club, commonly referred to as Kalloni or, rarely, AELK, is
a Greek football club, based in Kalloni, Lesbos. They are competing in the
Football League, the second level of the Greek football league system.
The
club was established in 1994 after a merger of Apollon Dafia and Arisvaios
Kalloni, two clubs that had been based in villages in the wider area of
Kalloni, hence the term lekanopedio (basin) in the full name of the club.
