Following the Bakau-Brikama super nawettan (zonal) final that was marred
by violence at the Serekunda East mini stadium on Saturday, the organizing
committee of the super nawettan on Sunday convened a meeting at the Friendship
Hostel in Bakau to decide on the matter.
Speaking to
a crew of reporters at the Independence Stadium shortly after the GFA super cup
final, Lamin Camara, chairman of the organizing committee disclosed that the
committee unanimously agreed to suspend Bakau for 2 years with a fine of D10,
000, as well as forfeited their D30, 000 prize as runner-up.
This
decision by the committee came after Sukuta was also handed a one year
suspension, a fine of D5000, as well the suspension of their players and technical
staff from participating in other zones. According to him, the committee will
hand over the trophy and cash prize to Brikama. It could be recalled that Bakau
was just returning from a year’s suspension for a similar a fracas against
Serrekunda East in 2009 at the Serrekunda West mini stadium.
We will
bring you the full interview with Lamin Camara in our subsequent edition, in
which he spoke at length on the fine on Lamin against Manjai, the amount of
money raised during the competition, as well the ugly action by the Police
Intervention Unit (PIU) that prompted Bakau fans to over react.
