Banjul, May 2013- Recently DHL’s valued customers were fortunate enough to spend an afternoon with legendary Manchester United former striker, Quinton Fortune. This was made possible by DHL who are the official logistics partner for Manchester United, the number one football club in the world.

VIP guests attended the event at Hotel Karaiba and had the opportunity to meet Quinton Fortune, who was on hand to sign autographs and memorabilia, and to discuss what has made the team a success. This is evident with its 659 million supporters worldwide, of which 173 million are in Africa and the Middle East alone.
Claude Zocli, the Country Manager for DHL Express Gambia, commented that “Quinton Fortune’s visit to The Gambia provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase DHL’s involvement with Manchester United to our key customers and staff locally. It was a fantastic opportunity for people to meet Fortune, and discuss the club’s popularity and success within Africa and globally. The passion and fervour of United fans is famous around the world, Gambia is no different.

“Behind such an opportunity, DHL intends to inspire its customers through both DHL’s and Manchester United’s stories. The way that Manchester United has grown from humble beginnings, formed by a group of railway workers into a worldwide brand with 333 million followers shows how small businesses can emerge into world leaders. Both DHL and Manchester United know what it is like to grow from humble beginnings to become one of the most recognised brands in the world.”

“The DHL story began a little more recently than that of the Reds. In 1969, three men in San Francisco (Adrian Dalsey (D), Larry Hillblom (H) and Robert Lynn (L) had little more than a few hundred dollars and a bright idea. But that idea – to fly customs documents ahead of cargo ships so that the consignments could be cleared in advance and save the operators time and money – was the beginning of a revolution in express delivery. It is always good to remember where things began. It provides a sense of perspective, a sense of pride and a sense of passion. This event hopes to evoke these emotions.” DHL Gambia also used the occasion of Fortune’s visit to give a donation to SOS kindergarten school at Bakoteh SOS Village.
