Information reaching MarketPlace Business Newspaper sport desk from the
National Sports Council (NSC) has it that the president of the Gambia Amateur
Boxing Association (GABA), Yusupha Jaiteh, has resigned from his post as the
head of the Association with immediate effect, this paper can learned.
In a letter
addressed to the National Sports Council and copied to The Gambia National
Olympic Committee and the GABA, Jaiteh said: “It is with regret that I tender
my resignation from the Gambia Amateur Boxing Association as President.” He
said that he was ‘sorry’ but he has to do this for the way forward in Gambian
Boxing, “because I may be a stumbling block to some criminals”. He
added that he is grateful for having had the opportunity to serve on the
executive of the Association for the past two and half years, and offered his
best wishes for its continued success.
As the president
of the Gambia Amateur Boxing Association (GABA), Jaiteh said he has few very
basic expectations as after a consistent and “annoying harassment” of a few
boxers, during his time of rest, he can only surmise that they are of the few
true genetic wastes of time, asking him, to go get them jobs, to lift the
embargo on club travels to Europe without any screening or justification of
trip. “I try to get some of the boxers to join hands with the executive to help
in the way forward but to no avail, and lack of funding is being blamed on the
executive, which is not within our reach.” In another
startling revelation, Jaiteh said some [people] had the guts to tell him to
start visa deals so as to be able to do all their programmes.
Concluding his
letter, Jaiteh said that as ‘this situation is unlikely to change without them
getting a full frontal surgical incision; he is forced to tender his
resignation’. However, he has a few advices to give to the genuine ones,
“meaning boxers” which he listed below:
1. Elect the vice president to the position of president
if you want a way forward
2. Assistant secretary be elected to the position as
secretary general
3. All clubs go register to the association meaning
(GABA).
4. Read and understand the constitution of GABA, AIBA,
MOYS and the national sports act to avoid problems in the future.
5. Please final note, love the game of boxing with
passion and not for travelling and be grateful to good people.
