Trophy Donated by Bakau Nyo Dema Cafo in Sweden |
The Bakau Nyo Dema Cafo in
Centerburg, Sweden, has boosted the Bakau Zonal Sports Committee (BZSC) in the 2012
football nawettan with a sponsorship package for both the league and the knockout
trophies.
This marked the first time the
committee has benefited from such gesture from the association.
The donated items included a giant
trophy, gold and silver medals for the winners and runners-up and a cash price
of D22,000 for a start.
The Sweden-based association of Bakau
Nyo Dema Cafo comprises only the natives of Bakau and any other person who is married
to a native of Bakau based in Sweden.
Speaking at the presentation
ceremony, Lamin Anto Jarjue, a senior member of the association in Sweden who
accompanied the items, said: “As a former footballer in the community, this is
one of the ways we can support the youth of Bakau.
“Although, the Nyo Dema Cafo in
Sweden is a new organization formed not long ago, but in the future we have a
lot of plans for the community. For now we are only donating a single trophy,
gold and silver medals for the winners and runners-up and a cash price of D22,000
as a start.
“Also this can encourage and
motivate the youths to showcase their talents to the people on what they can
do. I believe that through this type of initiatives, Bakau community can recover
its lost glory in sport, especially in football where it was one time the best
community in the county as far as football is concerned. The purpose of the
formation of Bakau Nyo Dema Cafo in Sweden is to help and develop the town.
“We will try all in our endeavours
to support the community in all sectors of life and not only in sport, in all
we can do at the association’s level in Sweden.”
Reacting to the gesture, the
president of Bakau Zonal Sports Committee, Bakary Dampha (Paco), expressed the
committee’s appreciation to the gesture from the community’s Sweden-based
association on behalf of his colleagues for their wonderful move towards the
sports committee at this crucial time in Bakau football.
According to the BZSC president,
“when I spoke to some guys in Bakau for such initiative, most of them said that
they want to do it, but they have not the trust and confidence on people
running football in Bakau.
“This gesture came thanks to the
timely intervention of Adnan Musa, the head coach of Vidar FC, whose tireless
efforts in communicating with the people of Nyo Dema Cafo in Sweden brought
this to the BZSC nawettan this year.
“This is one of the ways that we
want to change football in Bakau. On the side of my chance to be reelected as
president of BZSC in the next congress for another four years, this depends
entirely on the people of the community to decide.
“As regards development, I have
done a lot in developing football in Bakau. Let them not forget the fact that I
am the first president that brought Bahamas’s grass in Bakau and other things
during my previous terms of office as president of BZSC.”
