Minister Jammeh expresses disappointment and sadness with stakeholders

The minister of Youth and Sports Alieu K. Jammeh has registered his disappointment and sadness with the stakeholders for rejecting the new amended GFA constitution by adding somethings that will not move the country’s football forward on Saturday at the constitutional adoption congress hold at the Independence Stadium.

Minister Jammeh made the remark at a press conference on the same day shortly after the marathon discussion between GFA and delegates representing football clubs and regions from across the country during the constitutional adoption congress.

 The minister disclosed that “as a government we will not allow for an individual interest to run on the expense of the state. The Gamnia will not move forward with this circumstance, we will make sure that we put an end to this kind of attitudes”.

Reacting to question that on the event that FIFA did not approve this new constitution, what will the government do? He reply that “the government has already put in place sustainable sports development policy to revitalized six sporting disciplines including football. The government is also trying to create more sporting infrastructures across the country for the development of our sports”.

The Vice chairman and the spoke person of the GFA normalisation committee Alhagie Omar Sey confirmed to the press the adoption of the constitution by two third majority of the delegates. He added that it does not go without better argument from the people present during the closed door session which lasted for almost eight hours. “ I want to thank the minister who has being with us since the beginning, and also Mr. Primo Carvelo who is in Gambia for the third time only for the way forward of the country’s football”.

When asked whether they have achieved their objective in the office and whether everything was wrong? Sey reply positively “I will say that we have achieved our objective for being able to make Gambians to adopt this new constitution. We have no regret of taking the job in any how. Everything was wrong not today, but eight years ago, and we are trying to correct it soon”.

The FIFA delegate Primo Carvelo stated that FIFA has understand that football is not in every corner of the country which has being observed by the normalisation committee. He was quick to mentioned that FIFA will be ready to work with the FA to develop football in the country, adding that FIFA will do as much as possible to support Gambia. According to Mr. Primo, this is a golden opportunity for GFA to start changing for development, noting that the creation of regional football associations will improve and promote football in The Gambia.
