The Federation has also appointed a new secretary
general, technical director, and an accountant. Ismaila Njie, who has been
serving as the accountant since the normalisation process, is now appointed to
the same position on full time basis.
The Federation has disclosed to the Daily Observer
that Abbass Bah, a youth worker, who studied in the United Kingdom, has been
appointed secretary general. Bah replaced Marcel Mendy who until the recent
developments was serving as the acting secretary general.
Former Interior Football Club coach, Ebrima Manneh
has also been appointed as the new technical director of the Federation,
occupying a position that has been left vacant since the departure of Kebba
Masanneh Ceesay, at the early stages of the normalisation process.
When contacted by this reporter, Buba ‘Star’
Janneh, the first vice president of the GFF, who also double as the
spokesperson of the Federation, confirmed the new appointments. He added that
many people applied for the positions when the applications were opened but
that they had to settle on the aforementioned four.
According to him, the process of filling the vacant
position at the Football House was done in collaboration with FIFA, noting that
an independent panel was instituted for the whole process. He expressed hope
that the new appointees would work closely with the GFF executive to move
Gambian football forward.
While wishing the new recruits good luck, he
assured that the GFF would continue to hire more experts as it continues to
expand its scope. He said the four appointees would begin work as soon as
possible.
