The most critical growing ramous around town from football enthusiast that need a clear explanations from the football house authority is that what went wrong with the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) league sponsorship deal of four million dalasis which was earlier signed last year. The signing of the last deal automatically changed the name from GFF league to Gamtel/Gamcel sponsored league which has increased hopes of clubs that anyone who win the league was expecting one and half million of a million.
Gambia Sports News Online.com sound the opinion of one football enthusiast of Steve Biko FC why the disappointment from the GFF officials under the normalisation committee for the usual payment of only hundred thousand instead of one and half million or a million to the league winners, hence the sponsorship deal last year was exiting, and how will it affect the country´s football.
People have started ringing questions about the honesty and the credibility of the GFF officials with regard to this sponsorship deal special football supporters of Steve Biko FC for only receiving hundred thousand after winning the league, adding a queries of the way and manner they were crowned by the FA officials was not proper compare to the way previous winners were crowned. According to the team´s supports, the mood of crowned accorded to them by the GFF normalisation committee shows no sign that the FA officials with happy with Biko winning the league.
``I personal doubt the credibility of the normalisation committee running the affairs our football, and I think it is high time that Gambians do something about them. They have not make any improvement to our football since taken over from the successful Seedy M.B Kinteh´s regime over a year ago after officially been dissolved by Ministry of Youth and Sports. The fact is that I wonder whether they are there for public interest or personal interest, our football should not be personal owned by only few people who are currently doing things that favours them on the expense of the nation, hence current way of running the affairs shows no sign of a way forward of the game, `’ said a Biko fan in Bakau who want to his identity to remain undisclosed.
Commenting on the sponsorship deal for the league he said ``what can tell us to hear because we are still waiting to hearing a very good reason from the GFF normalisation committee. All what know about that deal is that it has finalized since last year, if it was not finalized, why would changed the name of the league to Gamtel/Gamcel sponsored GFF league. If any other team won the league this year different from Biko you could have seen a different, but because Biko won and are from Bakau that is why all this happening. It is simply because of the bad name they have for the community in the country´s football, and Bakau will continue to dominated the Gambian football at all the time like it or not that will happen,`` he said.
He continue that ``the normalisation committee should put at the back of their minds that after their tenure of office they will audited as they did to the former executive of Seedy Kinteh´s regime, whom they are currently creating all types of draconian rules to prevent him from standing for presidency after a higher popular demand by 95% of the teams expected to vote in the July 30 congress. The sponsorship deal has come to effect since last year, why are they denying to gives us the money meant for the league. It is sadden to know that it is only Gambian league where the winner will only one hundred thousand, a twenty five thousand different with the FA Cup winner as they were giving seventy five thousand, and the runners up fifty thousand,`` he said.
He conclude saying ``Biko is a community based club competing in the national domestic league, if we were crowned with a million or more will help us lot in our African Club Championship. This disappointment from the FA is a way of discouraging the club from taking part in the international tournament, but let them know that as a community based team we can turn things to make sure it happen as expected. They should also remember that we will be representing the nation, as result, the FA´s contribution most in place as they did for the other teams in the previous years,`` he said.
Meanwhile, this reporter make extra effort to reach the two parties to shed light on the issue as well as clearing doubts of people about the status of the sponsorship deal, but all the effort went to futile until at the time of going to the press to clear doubts. However, a reliable source from Gamtel/Gamcel company do confirm to this reporter about the existence of the sponsorship deal, which according the source it came to effect since last year with a tune in millions.
If there is anything to go by the confirmation of the deal and the some involve as said by the source, why should the league winners received only hundred thousand? Where are the remaining fund, and what is it for? The FA under the normalization committee should explain to put the general public into the true picture.
